If you are in a car accident who’s insurance company do you call: yours, the other person’s or both?

I was in a car accident a few days ago, the accident was not my fault, (the roads were wet and the other driver’s car somewhat lost control and slide into mine coming around a curve). I called my insurance after the accident, but I only had liability coverage (my insurance company will only pay for property damage resulting from the accident and for damage done to the other party’s car, but not mine. The other driver apparently has the same type of insurance as me. Anyway am I supposed to call the other persons insurance company and see if they will pay to have my car fixed (since it was kind of the other drivers fault), or is calling mine enough?
We did not call the police after the accident, we just exchanged insurance information. Isn’t it too late to report a police report? Aren’t you supposed to leave the cars exactly where they are and the call the police? If so, we both drove our cars to the side of the road a bit because we were blocking traffic.
Answer:
If you got his insurance information you should be able to file the claim with his insurance company. They’ll work with a police report and adjusters to determine fault and if it’s as you say, his company will pay for the damages to your vehicle under his liability coverage. You can file with your company as well and they’ll probably subrogate it to the other driver’s company.

It is too late to report a crash report, but that’s okay, the adjusters can compare sides of the story and determine fault that way. Don’t worry, just file with his ins. co. and if you don’t feel comfortable doing that call your ins. co. and give them all the info you have.
By the way, it’s okay to move the cars if you can if they’re blocking traffic, the police report is just a formal document with a lot of info about what happened.
