Sometime when you saw an advertisement about car insurance, you would see how well insurance do with their branding and marketing.  After all, Geico has their gecko and we have seen those cool Caveman ads and we know we were in “good hands with Allstate,” or they say, “Like a good neighbor, States Farm is there”. See those ads amaze me to think how creative and brilliant their marketing program have been.

If you read Advertising Age Magazine, they are giving awards to marketers regularly and public relation companies for their wonderful work in the insurance industry. Certainly, there is a new ad with Allstate now, Allstate Insurance tells new potential clients and if they decide to change insurance companies they will break the news to your old insurance company, they will handle it for you.

However, you cannot imagine when your new agent makes a phone call to your old insurance agent and saying “Ha ha ha, we just took your customer and we will take more” because actually that is what they are telling customer they will do for them. Worse when you are thinking the old insurance agent in getting a call?

Seemly, Allstate studied their new customer and considered some of the reason why people are afraid to switch their old insurance and after doing this research they found that many people were afraid to close out their old insurance agent’s account. Actually, people do like that because they did not want to hurt their old insurance agent feeling or confront them.

Actually, if you are thinking to switch your old insurance, you can call your old insurance agent and tell them what you mean, and usually they will tell you to come to their office to go over your policies to see if they can make the cost lower. Also, sometimes they will lead up with selling you more insurance services so that you would not go to visit them in the first place.

In other case, this was a brilliant marketing strategy by Allstate and it works so good that I highly expect other industries make them as an example for their marketing strategy. I expect banks, stockbrokers, and even financial planners to try the same strategy and tactic in their ads. I hope they will consider this strategy and see the result.
